Yesterday, we spent 3.5 hours at the TARONGA ZOO...the word, Taronga is from the Australian indigenous people and it means 'beautiful view'...when you get there, you will understand, as it is one of the most stunning views you can ever imagine. To arrive, first you hop on a ferry boat across the harbour from CIRCULAR QUAY. That drops you off at the ZOO CABLE CAR, which will take us right up to the main entrance. The zoo is perfect for walking, since it's ALL DOWNHILL...you snake (GO RATTLERS) through the zoo and end up back at the ferry pier, which was nice since it's a bit steep...the animals and displays and shows were SO COOL...I can't wait to hear all of your thoughts about it...the zoo also works a lot with animal welfare and rescue, so they're 'the good ones'! Again, I think that you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the TARONGA ZOO, and SYDNEY AUSTRALIA!
Hi there, SINGING RATTLER COMMUNITY! Today, I toured the town of MANLY and MANLY BEACH (funny, the Australians named it MANLY because in the 'olden days', before the ferry systems, it took very difficult work to ROW a boat there...so they thought it was a manly effort just to be able to get there, hence the name). It's such a cool town...one funny thing was that at one of the stores, there were Santa Cruz T-Shirts for sale all over...there are three beaches sort of all together and a pedestrian 'corso' for walking and shopping...there are also filtered water stations all over, so you can just REUSE your water bottle (saving TONS of money) by re-filling it at any of these stations...we drank the water all day and it was GOOD! In Sydney, you CAN drink the tap water...it's some of the best quality in the world, so that's something you don't have to worry about at all while touring this magnificent city (Canberra too). I KNOW that you will love our day at MANLY BEACH...oh, there are surfers there all around too, AND we went to the aquarium to see the SHARKS and CUTTLEFISH! TOUR MEMBERS, we are going to have a BLAST IN DECEMBER AND JANUARY!
This was another WONDERFUL stop on my 'site tour' portion of this summer (winter here...remember, SINGING RATTLERS, we will be here in the Australian SUMMER, so you won't have to bring sweaters, coats, etc...just an umbrella for any tropical rainstorms that come in during our tour)! The Sydney tower has the BEST views in the city...we will go to the top, but there is also an ADD ON (at your own expense) to go OUTSIDE, in cool blue jump suits, with a strap to the side of the building and WALK AROUND THE TOWER OBSERVATION DECK (I was WAY too scared to even think about it, but TONS of folks did it and looked pretty happy about it...it's YOUR CALL, SINGERS!).
Here are some photos from the tour of the CIRCULAR QUAY (sounds like 'key). We hopped on a Captain Cook Cruise (yes, Captain Cook was there to greet us...it WAS VERY COOL)...the cruise takes about 2 hours and contains TONS of information about Sydney and it's history. There are also more spectacular photo opportunities than you could ever imagine...I can't WAIT until our singers and tour members get this once in a lifetime opportunity!
Darling Harbour (very close to our hotel, about 5 - 10 minute walk) is SO INCREDIBLE. Today was a GORGEOUS Sunday, with families, kids and tourists all hanging out, playing in the park, shopping, eating and enjoying the spectacular views in EVERY direction...SINGING RATTLERS, you will just LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Here is yet another slide show...Mr. E has been working with choirs, so there are a few delays with posting on the blog, but by tonight, the page will be caught up again! CHEERS, MATES! (that's what they say here A LOT!) With love, music, learning and EXCITEMENT that we get to do this tour TOGETHER!
Yesterday, we took a three hour drive to CANBERRA, the capitol city of Australia. It has an interesting history...it was built ABOUT 1/2 way between Sydney and Melbourne because the country couldn't decided which city would be the capitol...SO, what did they do??? They BUILT A CITY FROM SCRATCH...welcome to CANBERRA! In this town, we will visit the PARLIMENT HOUSE and take a tour, the WAR MEMORIAL (and maybe some singing there), the ART MUSEUM (and definitely a performance in their foyer...then a few exhibits...one of them is like a video game, where you get to CREATE YOUR OWN DIGITAL HISTORY and FOLLOW YOUR FOOTSTEPS...also, a special exhibit in from England that will be inspirational...the ART MUSEUM is called the EMOTIONAL CENTER OF AUSTRALIA and it's VERY cool...and we are TRYING to perform at the WESTLEY MUSIC HALL and UNITING CHURCH (Chambers in the church and Reflections or the whole group together in the MUSIC HALL). Our hotel in CANBERRA is also the VIBE, but this one is BRAND NEW and the breakfast was DELICIOUS! Here are some photos (there will still be a few surprises, like seeing tons of KANGAROOS that are right in the road and around...oh, we will also go up to AINSLEY MOUNTAIN to have a lookout point of the ENTIRE CANBERRA AREA (it's BEAUTIFUL)!
Andrew Eisenmann, AKA, Mr. E is writing this blog about RMHS CHOIR TRIPS and TOURS! We've been to CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES and SYDNEY (Australia) together...WHERE WILL WE BE SINGING NEXT?
